Wendela Hebbe (1808–1899), Sweden

Author, journalist (Sweden’s first woman journalist), and composer. Received a thorough education in languages, the natural sciences, and music; her father was the vicar Samuel Åstrand, known as an accomplished singer. She was close friends with the Swedish writers and intellectuals Esaias Tegnér and Carl Jonas Love Almquist. She composed folk songs and romances as well as a musical play, Dalkullan, for the Djurgårdsteater in Stockholm.
