Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre (1665–1729), Paris, France

Harpist who enjoyed the patronage of Louis XIV. Her earliest published composition for harp was one of only a few in 17th-century France. Her opera Céphale et Procris (for the Academy of Music, 1694) was the first French opera written by a woman. She also composed vocal music, keyboard and violin pieces, and music for the ballet.
