Composer, pianist, singer, and teacher. Born in Tübingen, the daughter of violinist Theodor Lang and opera singer Regina Hitzelberger. Received early training in piano and music theory from her parents. By age 11 she was giving piano lessons herself. Through her family, she established good contacts with Felix Mendelsson, Ferdinand Hiller, and Robert Schumann. She was a well-known composer and musician on the European continent during her lifetime but suffered from frail health most of her life. She composed many songs (about 150), some of which have been recorded.
