Almén, Ruth

Ruth Sofia Almén (1870–1945)

Pianist, teacher, poet, author (under the pseudonym Runar Alm), and composer. Studied counterpoint for Wilhelm Stenhammar, Gothenburg; composition for Franz Neruda, Copenhagen; and piano for Heinrich Barth, Berlin.

Her compositions include works for piano (Three Preludes, Prelude and Sarabande, and Two Sonatas), a piano concerto, and a violin sonata. She also wrote children’s books: Musiktomtarna: små sagor för barn, som skola lära sig spela piano och sjunga and Den underbara harpan: en saga om musik för stora barn.
