Laura Phillips ‘Laurie’ Anderson (b. 1947), United States
Musician and composer. First made a name for herself as a performance artist in New York in the 1970s, and later became well-known for the production United States Part I-VI (1980-84). Her music often explores the borderlands between popular and art music. She has collaborated with musicians such as William Burroughs, Peter Gabriel, David Sylvan, and Lou Reed (whom she was married to).
