Esmeralda Athanasiu-Gardeev (1834–1917), Romania
Pianist and composer. Studied music in Bucharest; studied composition in Paris with Julius Schulhoff and St. Petersburg with Anton Rubinstein. Composed music based on Romanian folk music: instrumental works as well as pieces for solo voice and choir.
