Lera Auerbach (b. 1973), Russia, United States
Pianist and composer. Born in Russia in Chelyabinsk, near the Siberian border; now resident in the U.S. Wrote her first opera at age 12. Studied at the Juilliard School, New York. She has composed a large number of works for various instrumentations: chamber ensemble, orchestra, solo piano, and voice and piano, as well as music for the ballet and opera.
