Birgitta Bäckström (b. 1941), Sweden
Composer, songwriter, children’s choir director and former music teacher at the elementary level. Many of her songs have been published by both Gehrman and Wessman. She has also written a number of English children’s songs and musical stories for educational use, as well as other teaching materials for young schoolchildren. She has received numerous awards, including the Alice Tegnér Stipend (twice, in 1989 and 1994); the Skaraborg County Council Cultural Stipend (1995); the Svenska Tonsättares Internationalla Byrå (STIM) Stipend (1998); and stipends from Sveriges Läromedelsförfattarnas förening (SLFF; in 1994, 1998, 2001, and 2004).
