Gloria Coates (b. 1938), United States and Germany
Born in Wisconsin but is a longtime resident Germany. She has composed a large number of pieces since the early 1960s for most ensemble forces, included 15 symphonies, nine string quartets and many songs. Her breakthrough work is considered to be Music on Open Strings (1973; first performance 1978).
