Sophie Gail, née Garre (1775–1819), France
Singer and composer. Studied piano from a very young age. Married the scholar Jean-Baptiste Gail; they divorced in 1801. She continued to study music and toured Europe as a singer. She wrote music for piano and chamber ensemble as well as several operas.
