Teodora Ginés (ca. 1530–1598, or later senare), Cuba

Composer and performer (played the vihuela and the bandora); often called the mother of Cuban folk music. Born in Santiago de los Caballeros, she moved in the mid-1500s with her sister Micaela Ginés (also a singer and composer) to Santiago de Cuba. She is attributed with the composition of songs including El son de la Ma Teodora.
