Betsy Jolas (b. 1926), France 

Studied composition and piano in the U.S. from 1940–1946. Returned to France to study at the Conservatoire national supérieur de Musique, Paris, where her teachers included Darius Milhaud and Olivier Messiaen. She has headed the composition program at the Paris Conservatoire and her extensive output includes works for piano and other solo instruments, chamber ensemble, orchestra, solo voice, and choir, as well as three operas.
