Tania León (b. 1943), United States
Composer, pianist, and conductor. Born in Havana; has resided in the U.S since 1967. Studied at the Carlos Alfredo Peyrellade Conservatory and at the National Conservatory, Cuba; continued her studies at New York University. She was the first Music Director of the Dance Theatre of Harlem, instituted the Brooklyn Philharmonic Community Concert Series, and co-founded the Sonidos de las Américas festivals with the American Composers Orchestra. She has composed chamber and orchestral music and music for solo voice and choir, as well as an opera.
