Marie Regina Siegling (1824–1920), United States and Germany

Singer and composer; the daughter of instrument maker John Siegling, who emigrated to Charleston in the U.S. from Erfurt, Germany. Marie became known as the “Jenny Lind of Charleston.” She later moved to Dresden, where she met many of the great composers of her day (Wagner, the Schumanns, Liszt). She composed works for piano and for voice and piano.
