Alice Tegnér (née Sandström) (1864–1943), Sweden

Swedish composer and music teacher. She attended the Women’s Teacher Seminar (Högre Lärarinneseminarium) in Stockholm and studied piano with Ludvig Norman and composition with Johan Lindegren. As a teacher, she believed music was the most important tool in the formation of character. The Swedish children’s song in its most classic form is considered to have originated with her song collection, Sjung med oss, Mamma!

Her other compositions are less well known. Notable among her major works are four cantatas. She composed in the Nordic Romantic tradition, with great melodic invention and nuanced lyricism.
